Swimming 101

So this summer, me and my sisters have thought about going to swimming class. We thought after Dwayne's sessions, we'd also like to get for ourselves. It's not like we want to be professional swimmers, somehow we'd like to know the basics and survive in water. (Better late than never... :)

We're on our 7th day today and we have 12 sessions all in all. One hour per session. What i like about Cagayan de Oro City is that you have so many options!

Various swimming trainers that host in the hotels are available and they range from 3,500 to 4,500 to 6,000. But of course, we prefer the more affordable one but quality instructor.

So although Dwayne got the more expensive one, now we have discovered, the Pelaez Sports Complex! Yes. it's an old pool but guess what, it is still going. Besides, trainers are experienced if you know who to contact.

We are loving the water. (Dwayne is also coming with us every morning, so we decided to include him in the sessions. And he is doing great!)

If I have to share some tips, one is to really be interested to learn how to swim. Once you enroll, you just have to be interested. Second, it's also hard work. It's technical because you learn the different strokes. Like, now we are learning a lot of freestyle, breast stroke, backstroke and butterfly. I am telling you it is not easy especially if you are not sporty like me but it does so good with your heart and lungs.

You breathe easier, lungs expand, all your muscles work. It's a very good exercise.

Third, I think tip and lesson as well for me is learning how to relax in water. Like I have so many fears. One is the fear of drowning, being ashamed and not being able to do the task in general. It's crazy all the things you can think about but one thing when you are in water you learn how to focus and concentrate. You can't think of anything else. And just go with the flow.

I am not an expert. In fact, I am learning. And when it comes to physical activities, I am pretty late bloomer. However, swimming I think is something I can enjoy and do on a daily basis. Anyone who wants to swim, must. It's just great.

If you wish to learn to swim with our Instructor, his name is Rix Balanay. You may call or text him at 09064823092. His fee is P1,500 for 12 sessions and for one on one P2,000. Not bad. And of course, you pay for the entrance at the swimming pool.

And, it is still summer, right? With this kind of heat, we need to dip in the water. Happy swimming guys!

By the way, photos taken by my good husband. Thanks pa!
