Weekend Davao Part 2 - San Pedro Church and Family Affair

Our second day in Davao was the most important day because this was to celebrate the death anniversary of the grandma of my partner. Here in the Philippines, even if a person has already passed away, his or her death is still being celebrated by offering mass and visiting in the cemetery. It's a tradition really and everyone in the family should come and celebrate with the rest. I have not really met his departed grandma but I am sure she is one of a kind woman.

For the first time, Dwayne met and played with his cousins. He enjoyed it there dribbling, throwing and getting the basketball. He was actually in awe that everybody knew how to play basketball. All his male cousins are into that sport. They know how to ride a bike, his favorite soon-to-be past time for sure. He fell on his butt, got on his knees and got all the dirt in the world, but no matter he felt so alive playing and being with kids his age. I, on the other hand was following him the entire time, snapping pictures and making sure he is not hurt major.

The main viand here as you could see was the lechon! Usually when there are events, that's the delicacy everybody makes. It's quite expensive but it's a big celebration after all and everyone dug in!

  1. Kumusta Jam?

You have a wonderful blog with really nice photos and stories. All the posts on this page make me really miss Mindanao (my wife is from Misamis Occidental). I have never been to Davao yet, but I really would like to go and visit.

I look forward to reading more of your blog, just discovered it this evening. You have a beautiful family! If you get a chance to stop by my blog, please do. I have a lot of posts about traveling in the Philippines with my wife and daughter and a few posts and lots of photos in Mindanao in and around Misamis Occidental.

    Amping!

    1. I'm good. and you? thanks for looking through my posts. I have checked your blog too and yes I guess we have a common like of travelling. Davao is so far the safest city in Mindanao and I think in the Philippines. I don't know if you have heard of the strict Mayor Duterte there but definitely rules and regulations are followed. You and your family should go visit Davao. I have been to Mis Occ many years ago and I am yet to go back. I miss Dipolog and Zamboanga.

  2. We have the same tradition f celebrating death anniversaries in our culture too. I think it's a great way to gather and send time with family. Dwayne looks like he is having fun with his cousins.
